Sir Norman Foster, in his wisdom, then asked Nick Schumann and Dave Smith to build a “bulletproof” specification. Since that day, Schumann Smith undertook all of Foster+Partners project specifications and developed the T-Sheet process. This has given us a unique insight into how best to protect the Designer and their Client, and how to integrate the specification.
Schumann Smith joined Davis Langdon in 2000 to form a Global reaching service and the most recognised and largest specification consulting service in the World. Our service started in Australia in 2004.
After Davis Langdon was acquired by a large multi-national public firm, Will Hamlyn-Harris divested the service and started up SCL Schumann for Australia in 2014, Nick and Mark Schumann did the same in the UK and Shawn Kennard for South Africa.
We have developed long standing professional relationships with many renown architectural firms in Australia since 2006. Many of whom are our industry partners.
This proven process is suitable for design firms whom could benefit from a standardised approach across multiple projects or offices.
Gone are the days of flat medium such as word or excel, our systems can be accessed anywhere via the internet, and provide the following advantages:
A well prepared and coordinated specification communicates what the project client is buying from the contractor. It deals with scope, quality, activity, and responsibility, and as such complements the contract conditions and other documentation. During construction the specification is used to check the adequacy of the contractor’s work on site, as well as providing a reference point for the determination of variations.
We understand the complexities and intricacies of what it takes to develop a “watertight” specification. Whilst our principles and processes can remain uniform, there are a number of differing specification formats, which must be followed to suit the local requirements.
We maintain master specification baselines in the following formats in order to serve each region we work:
We have developed our own baseline documents and style of writing for each of the specification formats, suitable for their associated regions, which we believe gives the best protection to our Clients.
Our QA/QC process ensures each project has the necessary steps and team to deliver the specification consulting role effectively, including a dedicated proof reader and researcher.
